The City of Roseville is currently recruiting for the position of Police Officer to work in the Roseville Police Department. The individual selected for this position will have the opportunity to work for a rapidly growing Northern California community and a progressive organization. Our expanding population is currently over 124,000. The Department moved into a new, state of the art facility in 1998 and is currently staffed with one hundred ninety one (191) full time employees, which includes 124 sworn officers. The Police Department offers on-duty workouts and a wide range of assignments including: neighborhood policing, traffic, motors, K-9 units, detectives and SWAT.


To perform sworn law enforcement and crime prevention duties involved in the protection of life and property; and to perform a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of law enforcement services and activities.


Receives general supervision from assigned supervisory staff; may receive technical and functional supervision from an assigned Field Training Officer, as appropriate.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Patrol assigned area to preserve law and order, to prevent and discover crimes, and to enforce traffic regulations; respond to calls and complaints involving traffic accidents, robberies, disturbances, and other misdemeanors and felonies and take necessary police action, including making arrests.

Actively enforce traffic laws through observation, use of LIDAR, traffic checkpoints, DUI suspicion stops, special event/parade/street closures and/or responding to emergency situations, investigate traffic accidents, as appropriate.

Investigate crimes against persons and property; interview victims and witnesses, search for, collect, evaluate, and secure property and evidence; make arrests; prepare and maintain investigative case records.

Investigate narcotic, vice and computer crimes.

Provide testimony in court related to assigned duties.

Serve as a field training officer or background investigator, as assigned; may be designated as an acting supervisor.

Perform duties related to operational and/or administrative assignments such as canine unit, youth activities, police certification and standards.

Answer questions and provide information to the public as appropriate.

Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public using principles of good customer service; practice community oriented policing strategies.

Perform related duties as assigned.


Knowledge of:

Computer equipment and key boarding (typing).

Basic principles of business letter writing and crime report preparation, including English usage, spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

Basic arithmetic, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and calculation of percentages.

Principles and practices of good customer service.

Principles and practices of effective interpersonal communication.

Principles and practices of safety management.

Organization, procedures and operating details of the City of Roseville's Department as understood by a sworn police officer.

Experience and Training

Employment as a sworn Police Officer with a California P.O.S.T. certified agency or successful completion of a P.O.S.T. approved police academy by date of appointment. Receipt of California P.O.S.T Basic Course Waiver by date of appointment counts towards experience.

Training: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.

License or Certificate

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license appropriate to area of assignment.

Possession of a current California P.O.S.T. (Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission) Basic Certificate or Basic Course Waiver by date of appointment. Must submit copy with application.

Must obtain CPR and First Aid certificates within first 12 months of employment.

Must be age 21 by date of appointment.




All candidates meeting the minimum qualifications will have their Supplemental Questionnaire scored in the Formula Rate Examination using a pre-determined formula. Scores from this evaluation will determine applicant ranking and placement on the Employment List. Final appointment is contingent upon a check of past employment references, passing a City-paid pre-employment medical exam, a drug and alcohol screening test, and a fingerprint check.

Salary: Up to $6,848 per month

PERS Retirement::3% at 50 for members who joined PERS prior to Jan 1, 2013, (with less than 6 months break in service) 2.7% @ 57 if hired after January 1, 2013
