TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION - TRAINING ASSISTANT OPTION

The San Diego County Registrar of Voters is seeking Training Assistants to fill temporary employment positions to help train poll workers for the upcoming November 4, 2014 Gubernational General Election.

The ideal candidate for this position supports all members of training staff by providing excellent customer service and accurate information to volunteer poll workers, and by assisting with training classes as needed. This position requires the following characteristics: punctuality, patience, and organization. In addition, the ability to follow directions and to exercise sound judgment in busy, high-stress environments is strongly desired for this position.

The following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities have been identified as necessary and/or desirable for this job:

Positive Attitude/Professional Behaviors:

  • Represents the Registrar of Voters (ROV) in a professional/nonpartisan manner.
  • Works well within a team, demonstrating supportive behaviors and a positive attitude.
  • Takes direction and accepts constructive feedback from team members and supervisors.
  • Routinely performs responsibilities with little or no direct supervision.
  • Willing to perform other duties as requested and to work a flexible schedule that may include nights and weekends.

Customer Service:

  • Enjoys helping others and functioning as team support.
  • Assist poll workers and co-workers with a friendly, patient, and helpful attitude.
  • Stays calm and polite when interacting with upset customers and/or in high-stress environments.

Attention-to-Detail/Organization:

  • Manages poll worker sign-in table to keep track of important paperwork and supplies while moving between training sites.
  • Interprets and complies with County Policy, IRS Regulations, and Elections Code in order to accurately and confidentially collect sensitive information and ensure the confidential handling and storage of payroll data and documentation.
  • Tracks and manages the inventory of supplies and equipment, ensuring appropriate materials are available for training classes.

Communication:

  • Serves as liaison between the "field" and Election Services sections of Recruitment, Training, and Logistics/Warehouse.
  • Appropriately addresses poll workers' questions and comments during class, including those of an opinionated and/or political nature.
  • Clearly conveys training requirements to poll workers and exercises excellent judgment in the execution of administrative procedures.
  • Completes a written debrief report for each class to submit to supervisor.
  • Evaluates the ability of poll worker trainees to perform Election Day tasks.
  • Assists in decision making as relates to determining Precinct Boards.

Time Management:

  • Takes initiative to prioritize the needs of colleagues and poll workers to accomplish all tasks effeciently in busy, high-stress environments.
  • Arrives to all scheduled assignments on time.
  • Tracks trainers' timing during class.
  • Manages team timesheet on a daily basis.

Physical Ability:

  • Willing and able to help set up/take down training sites and clean up/reset after each training class.
  • Able to stand for 3 hours and to lift up to 28 lbs.
  • Able to drive and show current Driver License and proof of insurance upon employment.

Technical Ability:

  • Manage Team cell phone.
  • Successfully completes required online training lessons.
  • Assists with setup/take down of classroom audiovisual equipment.
