Duties:

The Massachusetts Hospital School (MHS) is one of four public health hospitals operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Located on a 168 acre campus, the MHS is a Joint Commission accredited chronic care pediatric public health hospital serving the more complex medical, rehabilitative, educational, and recreational needs of children and young adults with Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy and other Neuromuscular Disorders, Myelodysplasia, trauma based disability including brain injury, and other congenital or acquired physically debilitating disorders. The MHS has a current inpatient capacity of 93 and provides day services during its summer program for 145 children from across the Commonwealth.

The incumbent of this position is considered essential staff and required to remain alert while on duty as well as remain on duty until properly relieved of their duties/shift. Maintain protection of buildings, grounds, equipment, patients, and personnel in a State hospital, facility, clinic or institution against possible loss or damage from theft, fire, vandalism, civil disorder or other causes. May provide emergency first aid; may provide emergency coverage in various classifications; patrols Campus buildings and adjacent areas; investigate crimes or other incidents; restrain or detain suspects, when necessary; and performs job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.

This is a full-time (40 hour weekly) position. Shift will be multiple shifts and days off to be determined.

Qualifications:

Minimum Entrance Requirements: None.

Special Requirements: Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License.

Appointee must be eligible for appointment as a special police officer under Chapter 22C, Section 60 (DPH) and Section 59 (DMH & DMR) of the Massachusetts General Laws.
