Are you a Nurse Manager with exceptional leadership skills and proven ability to motivate and develop staff? Do you have experience managing systems and programs? If so, the County of San Diego is currently accepting applications for Nursing Director, Sheriff's Detentions Facilities.

Under administrative direction, the Nursing Director, Sheriff's Detentions Facilities will serve as director of a large staff of professional and paraprofessional nurses providing medical nursing care and services to inmate patients at the detention facilities. Incumbents are responsible for analyzing and evaluating the effectiveness of nursing services, establishing standards of performance for nursing care and services, and ensuring compliance with federal, state and local regulations pertaining to the provision of nursing services. Minimum Qualifications:

1. A valid California Registered Nurse license is required at time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment; AND,

2. A valid CPR card at time of application; AND,

3. Five (5) years of recent registered psychiatric or correctional nursing experience, three (3) years of which must have been in an administrative or full supervisory position.

Note: A bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in nursing, administration or a related health care field is highly desirable.

The ideal candidate is also a decision-maker who utilizes strategic perspective and leverages resources, demonstrates ethical behavior and is supportive of change.

Required Licenses and Certification:

Required licenses, certifications and registrations must be maintained throughout employment in this class.

  • A valid California Class C driver's license, which must be maintained throughout employment in this class, is required at time of appointment, or the ability to arrange necessary and timely transportation for field travel. Employees in this class may be required to use their own vehicle.
  • A valid California Registered Nurse license is required at time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Valid CPR card at time of application.

Working Condition:

May be subjected to potentially violent patients and to communicable diseases.

Background:

Must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. Prior to appointment, candidates will be subject to a background investigation.

Evaluation:

The names of qualified candidates will be placed on a twelve (12) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment application and supplemental questionnaire. Please ensure all information is complete and accurate as the responses you provide on the supplemental application form will be reviewed using an automated evaluation system.
