The County of San Diego, Public Safety Group is currently accepting applications for the position of:

Group Communications Officer

Group Communications Officers oversee, develop, and coordinate the communications program for a County functional group or agency; advise and assist management in public information/relations activities. This position oversees all media and communication within a group to ensure accuracy and effectiveness and is responsible for coordinating and working together with the County Communications Office to complete the group's communication efforts. The eligible list generated from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies in other County functional groups or agency.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to:

  • Effectively support County executives in presenting a credible public image
  • Support and assist with the development and implementation Health and Human Services Agency communication strategies and products to advance Live Well, San Diego!
  • Effectively communicate in oral and written form
  • Establish effective working relationships with management, employees, employee representatives and the public representing diverse cultures and backgrounds
  • Exercise appropriate judgment in answering questions and releasing information
  • Analyze and project consequences of decisions and/or recommendations
  • Hold self and others accountable for accurate and complete information and communication

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in communications, journalism, public relations, or a closely related field; AND,

1. Two (2) years as a Communications Specialist with the County of San Diego, OR,

2. Four (4) years of full-time experience in public or community relations involving the dissemination of information to the public through various forms of communications media.

Note: Additional years of experience as described above may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

If qualifying with a bachelor's degree or college level education, a copy of your degree/transcripts MUST be submitted in order to apply for this position. If these documents have been previously submitted, you will not need to do so again.
