This position is funded from the Commonwealth's annual operating budget.

Assist the medical examiner by investigating cases, reviewing charts, contacting family members of deceased, and communicating with physicians. Obtain information to aid in the Identification procedure of decedents which may include; requesting x-rays from hospitals; requesting copies of radiographs from dental offices; conversing with family members and interacting with law enforcement personnel. Participate in weekly status meeting. Work closely with Intake staff, Mortuary Technicians, State Police, Funeral Directors, and family members to expedite the Identification process.
Perform external exams and cremation views daily. Much travel involved.
Other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional, administrative, supervisory, or managerial experience in business administration, business management, or public administration and (B) of which at least three years must have been in a supervisory or managerial capacity or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions: I. A Master's or higher degree with a major in business administration, management, public administration, industrial engineering, industrial psychology, or hospital administration may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.*

*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.


Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with Medical Record Systems and hospital operations. Knowledge of Investigation experience, demonstrated research and analytical experience. Knowledge of relevant law, regulation and policy. Maintain records and prepare reports. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public. Follow written and verbal instructions. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, state and federal regulations, executive orders, agency rules and and the democratic political process. Knowledge of relevant equipment used.
Must possess a Bachelor's Degree or higher within related field; minimum of two (2) years investigatory experience, or an equivalent combination of training, education and work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. A Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurse, Forensic Nurse or Paramedic with experience in emergency, surgical, or internal medicine preferred. Must possess a valid Driver's License.
