As a Legal Support Assistant I with the County of San Diego you will be responsible for reviewing, recording and filing a wide variety of legal documents pertaining to civil and criminal matters. This position will allow you to gain experience dealing with court officials, officers of the court, complainants or their representatives, and the public regarding questions that deal with claims, civil judgments, and the status of petitions, indictments, or other legal matters. Qualified applicants must possess:

  • One year of full-time general clerical or secretarial work experience; OR,
  • Completion of a legal administrative assistant, legal secretarial or paralegal program from a recognized community or business college.
  • In addition, you must be able to type 30 net words per minute. (Click here for a complete job description including minimum qualifications and typing requirements.)

    Written Examination

    Invitations to take the written examination will be determined by the responses you provide on the supplemental application form using an automated evaluation system. If you are successful in the initial screening process and pass the exam, your application will be reviewed individually to confirm that the information you provided is accurate and qualifying.

    A WRITTEN MULTIPLE-CHOICE TEST to be held the weekend of May 03, 2014 will include general office clerical procedures, checking and comparing, filing and records management, legal terminology and procedures, reading comprehension, and customer service. Qualifying applicants will be notified via email of the time and location at least ten (10) days prior to the exam.

    Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and successfully pass the written exam will be placed on a twelve (12) month employment list based on their written exam score.

    The County of San Diego highly desires employees that are able to function in a paperless environment through the use of automated technologies. The ability to use desktop scanners, related enterprise systems, and database software packages is advantageous to the County's workforce needs.
