TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION - TRAINING ASSISTANT OPTION

The San Diego County Registrar of Voters is seeking Training Assistants to fill temporary employment positions to train poll workers for the upcoming June 3, 2014 Statewide Direct Primary Election.

The ideal candidate for this position supports all members of training staff by providing excellent customer service and accurate information to volunteer poll workers, and by assisting with training classes as needed. This position requires the following characteristics: punctuality, patience, and organization. In addition, the ability to follow directions and to excersie sound judgement in busy, high-stress environments is strongly desired for this position.

This recruitment is open continuously and can close at any time once the business needs of the Department have been met. Please apply immediately.

The following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities have been identified as necessary and/or desirable for this job:

Positive Attitude/Professional Behaviors:
  • Ability to represent the Registrar of Voters in a professional/non-partisan manner.
  • Ability to work well within a team, demonstrating supportive behaviors and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to take direction and accept constructive feedback from team members and supervisors.
  • Willingness to perform other duties as requested and to work a flexible schedule that may include nights and weekends.
Customer Service:
  • Skill and passion for helping others and functioning as team support.
  • Ability to assist poll workers and co-workers with a friendly, patient, and helpful attitude.
  • Ability to stay calm and polite when interacting with upset customers and/or in high-stress environments.
Attention-to-Detail/Multi-tasking:
  • Ability to manage poll worker sign-in table and to keep track of important paperwork and supplies while moving between training sites.
  • Ability to learn and remember intricate and important details of San Diego County election procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in busy, high-stress environments.

Communication:
  • Ability to effectively communicate over the phone with Registrar of Voters' staff about poll worker attendance and any other team needs (missing supplies, questions, etc.).
  • Knowledge of how to appropriately handle poll workers' questions during class.
  • Knowledge of how to appropriately address poll workers' comments during class, including those of an opinionated and/or political nature.
Timeliness:
  • Ability to arrive to all scheduled assignments on time.
  • Ability to track trainers' timing during class.
  • Ability to manage team time sheet on a daily basis.
Physical Ability:
  • Ability and willingness to help set up/take down training sites and clean up/reset after each training class.
  • Ability to stand for 3 hours and to lift up to 28 lbs.
  • Ability to drive and to show current Driver License and proof of insurance upon employment.
Technical Ability:
  • Ability to use and be responsible for answering/handling team cell phone.
  • Ability to successfully complete required online training lessons.
  • Ability to assist with setup/take down of classroom audiovisual equipment.
Pay Rate:

Training Assistants, EW-3: $12.29/hour
