Department:State Police

Serves as the Technical Expert to ensure the function and performance of the Michigan State Police's Michigan Criminal Information System (MCIS), including the Michigan Criminal Intelligence System (MICrimInt) database. Responsible for maintaining MCIS in the live, testing and training environments (servers), troubleshooting, developing features, networking, establishing interfaces- to include Web Interfaces and Portals, to ensure the system is working 24/7 for Intelligence Analysts and Law Enforcement Officers. Works with management to anticipate future needs and position the Michigan Intelligence Operations Center (MIOC) and MCIS to be ready to accomplish assigned missions with minimal interruptions or down time. Assists with developing training programs, training materials and technology solutions for MCIS.

Position Description



Required Education and Experience:
Education

Possession of a high school diploma or a GED Certificate.

ExperienceDepartmental Technician 7

One year of experience performing experienced-level administrative support activities equivalent to the 7-level in state service.

Departmental Technician 8

One year of experience as a technician or paraprofessional equivalent to the entry level in state service.

OR

One year of experience performing advanced-level administrative support activities equivalent to the 8-level in state service.

Departmental Technician E9

Two years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate level in state service.

OR

One year of experience performing advanced secretarial or supervisory administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.


Alternate Education and Experience:

Departmental Technician 7

Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits) may be substituted for the experience requirement.
Departmental Technician 8
Possession of a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for the experience requirement.
Departmental Technician E9
Possession of a Bachelor's degree and one year of job-related experience may be substituted for the experience requirement.

This position requires passing a pre-employment screening, including passing a drug screen, criminal history background check and a fingerprint check by the Michigan State Police.

  • Possession of an associate's degree or higher from an accredited institution in computer science or information technology field.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Experience or training in software testing
  • Experience with Programming Languages such as Linux, html, SQL, Oracle
  • Experience working with or supporting web based software applications
