This position is responsible for typing high volumes of reports, some transcriptions, and other clerical duties by providing word processing support to D/Sergeants, Flint PD Detectives, and D/Tpr/Specialists who are assigned to the Michigan State Police (MSP), Third District, Major Case Detective Unit-Flint.

Required Education and Experience:
Education
Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.

Experience

Word Processing Assistant 5
No specific type or amount is required.

Word Processing Assistant 6
One year of administrative support experience where use of a personal computer to prepare correspondence, reports, charts, etc., or to enter/retrieve/update information is an essential part of the work.

Word Processing Assistant E7
Two years of administrative support experience, including one year equivalent to a 6-level administrative support classification, where use of a personal computer to prepare correspondence, reports, charts, etc., or to enter/retrieve/update information is an essential part of the work.
Additional Requirements and Information:
This position requires passing a pre-employment screening, including passing a drug screen, criminal history background check and a fingerprint check by the Michigan State Police.

Applicants will be screened on the following criteria:
  • Experience organizing, prioritizing, and coordinating workload;
  • Proficiency in word processing, including experience with dictation/transcription;
  • Experience with law enforcement report management systems;
  • Availability to work various shifts (including some afternoons, evenings, or weekends);
  • Experience handling sensitive documents with highly confidential information;
  • Experience working in a para-military or law enforcement agency
