District Attorney Investigators perform a wide variety of investigations of alleged or suspected violations of criminal and civil laws. Incumbents are sworn peace officers with law enforcement duties. District Attorney Investigator II is the first working-level class of the series. Incumbents act as team leaders coordinating investigative activities and provide technical training and guidance to lower level investigators and support staff. Under general supervision, incumbents perform progressively more responsible criminal and civil investigations.

Required education and experience:

1. Possession of a valid and current California Regular Basic P.O.S.T. Certificate at the time of application; AND;

2. One (1) year of experience as a District Attorney Investigator I with the County of San Diego; OR,

3. Three (3) years of recent experience as a peace officer working for a Federal, State or local law enforcement agency, one (1) year of which must have been conducting full-time, comprehensive and complex criminal investigations.

Notes:
No level of Specialized P.O.S.T. Certificate can be substituted for the California Regular Basic P.O.S.T. Certificate.

Completion of POST Investigation and Trial Preparation Course consistent with P.O.S.T. and Statutory requirements.

Peace Officer Provisions:
  • Appointees enter the County Retirement System as a Safety Member and are not covered under Social Security.
  • Appointees are "Peace Officers" as defined in Section 830.1 of the California Penal Code for the purposes of carrying out the duties of their employment, and as such will be required to purchase and carry a firearm, holster and handcuffs.
  • Evaluation:

    The names of qualified candidates will be placed on a twelve (12) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment application and supplemental questionnaire. Please ensure all information is complete and accurate as the responses you provide on the supplemental application questionnaire will be reviewed using an automated evaluation system. If you are successful in the initial screening process your application will be reviewed individually to confirm that the information you provided is accurate and qualifying.
