Duties:

Supervises the Campus Police I's assigned to the shift. Enforce all Safety and Security regulations, Access Control, and parking.

The incumbent of this position ensures the safety and security of a 24 hour psychiatric homeless shelter. Conducts regular patrols of the building and provides access control to the facility. Responds to emergency calls within the building and provides patient escorts when directed. Patrols assigned Campus Police buildings and adjacent areas on foot or in a patrol vehicle to ensure the security of the buildings and grounds at institutions of higher education or at mental health, mental retardation or public health facilities. Guards against trespass. theft, damage to property or injury to individuals by screening visitors; inspecting rooms, packages and vehicles for explosives, firearms and other contraband; controlling crowds; providing personal protection to individuals as required; conducting surveillance of high-crime areas; searching for missing goods and persons; investigating complaints and reports of suspicious activity as well as mediating disputes.

1. Assist in maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment by close observation of who enters the facility and verifying their appropriate business in the building.
2. Provides support to clinical staff by responding to behavior calls and medical emergency calls in order to insure safety of clients, staff and any other persons present.
3. Performs security services by conducting regular rounds of building and grounds and checking office areas in order to insure the property is secure and that systems are operative.
4. Performs security services by preparing accurate and concise officers daily log, visitors log, incidents reports and police reports; and other related documentation.
5. Monitors the Surveillance camera system and is familiar with its taping functions and playback capacity.
6. Monitors Alarm Systems such as the panic, intrusion and handicap call buttons. Responds as procedures dictate. .
7. Transports and provides escort to various inpatient clients also provides non- routine transportation at the request of the administration.
8. Attends all annual Lindemann and police mandatory in-service trainings.
9. Patrols parking areas and reports any violations to supervisor and assists employees in determining available parking during shift changes.
10. Standby with contractors to insure clients avoid potential hazards until safety arrangements are met.
11. Conducts investigations as directed by supervisors and conducts on site searches for missing or AWA clients.
12. Maintains security awareness by issuance of keys and photo identification badges.
13. Responsible for employee evaluations for all officers assigned to shift.
14. Ensures subordinates complete all interior and exterior patrols and that all documentation is completed.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in a governmental police force or in law enforcement work, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions:
I. An Associate's degree with a major in police science, law enforcement or criminal justice may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.*

II. A Bachelor's degree or higher, with a major in criminal justice, police science or law enforcement may be substituted for the required experience.*

*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

Special Requirements: Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License.

Appointee must be eligible for appointment as a special police officer under Chapter 22C, Section 60 (DPH) and Section 59 (DMH & DMR) of the Massachusetts General Laws.

5. Ability to make decisions and act quickly in dangerous or emergency situations.
6. Ability to exercise sound judgment.
7. Ability to analyze and determine the applicability of data, to draw conclusions and make recommendations.

Full time position
Hours: 2:45pm to 11:15pm
Days off: Saturday and Sunday
