The primary goal of the financial investigator is to identify, investigate, and develop financial fraud and other economic crime prosecutions from the intake stage to the trial stage while working closely with the assigned Assistant District Attorney as well as state and local police officers. The financial investigator will conduct criminal investigations into potential violations of Massachusetts General Laws involving such crimes as larceny, embezzlement, forgery, insurance fraud, money laundering, conflict of interest, and identity theft. The applicant must be adept at conducting interviews and obtaining testimony of victims, witnesses and suspects involved in criminal financial investigations as well as testifying in grand jury and in court. The applicant must also be proficient in the detailed examination and analysis of financial, corporate, bank, computer, and/or telephone records in order to assist the prosecutor in putting together a successful economic crime prosecution. The applicant should have a working knowledge of the criminal justice system, and will also be responsible for drafting document subpoenas in order to obtain the necessary records relevant to an investigation.


? Provide support to the prosecutor assigned to a financial crimes case

? Understand and provide analyses and examinations of financial records and reports

? Document findings in reports, case memos or case summaries

? Work with prosecutors to draft and send document subpoenas to various financial institutions

? Interview potential targets, victims and witnesses

? Assist in preparing witnesses for grand jury and trial

? Offer opinions as to the viability of potential criminal

? Testify in grand jury, motion hearings and trials

? Establish and maintain relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement officers and prosecutors



? Bachelor?s degree in related field and a minimum of 5 years experience in financial services or financial fraud investigations
? Ability to analyze financial documents and create reports using Excel and other software
? Understanding of and familiarity with accounting principles
? A sincere interest in the public sector, the work of the MDAO, and an overall understanding of the state criminal justice system
? The sensitive and confidential nature of our work requires strong personal character, integrity, judgment, and maturity
? Ability to work well in a high pressure environment with multiple concurrent priorities while maintaining a high level of quality
? A valid Massachusetts driver?s license, as limited travel within the Greater Boston area and across Middlesex County will be required from time to time


Proficient in MS Word and Excel
Knowledge of Quick Books and other accounting software

? CPA or equivalent experience from other employment such as a fraud investigator for a federal or state agency or private industry
