This position is funded from the Commonwealth's annual operating budget.
Duties:

1. Patrols all buildings, grounds and adjacent areas of the hospital at regular intervals and guards against trespass, theft, fire and damage to property.

2. Maintains order among visitors and staff; maintains motor vehicle traffic controls on hospital grounds including parking, speeding and other traffic conditions and takes necessary measures to prevent unauthorized use of hospital roads and parking facilities.

3. Performs security duties such as screening visitors; directing traffic; enforcing parking controls; providing personal protection to individuals as required; searching for missing goods and persons; conducting surveillance; investigating complaints and reports of suspicious activities, etc., in order to ensure the safety of all agency individuals and property.

4. Assists in case of emergencies such as heavy snows, internal or external disaster, etc., and calling for professional assistance.

5. May conduct inservice training on fire prevention, crime prevention, and basic safety standards and practices for hospital personnel and staff of outside agencies utilizing hospital buildings and/or grounds.

6. Coordinates the maintenance of hospital fire fighting equipment, alarm systems, and other safeguards; reports defects and requests repairs in order to ensure compliance with safety standards and requirements.

7. Monitors hospital switchboard, Medical Gas Gauges and Simplex alarm indicator panel; takes necessary action in event of malfunction or alarm, including resetting the alarm system.

8. Prepares reports on investigations conducted and noteworthy incidents during tour of duty.

9. Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Entrance Requirements: None.

Special Requirements: Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License.

Appointee must be eligible for appointment as a special police officer under Chapter 22C, Section 60 (DPH) and Section 59 (DMH & DMR) of the Massachusetts General Laws.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to successfully pass Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and emergency first aid courses. Previous health care security experience preferred.
