The Health and Human Services Agency is currently accepting applications from qualified individuals for the position of:

Public Health Nurse Supervisor
As a Public Health Nurse Supervisor, you will be responsible for providing first-line supervision and implementing nursing programs to Public Health Nurses and other support staff. The current vacancy is at the North Inland Public Health Center, Escondido CA; however, the list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies in other HHSA departments.

Duties include planning, directing, coordinating, scheduling, training, and evaluating the work of public health nurses engaged in a variety of nursing and health care programs; coordinating nursing programs with other social and health service agencies, educational agencies, and the community; and representing HHSA on committees as necessary.

Required Education and Experience
  • A valid California Registered Nurse License (required at time of application); AND,
  • A valid Public Health Nurse Certificate from a State Public Health Nursing or other regulatory agency (required at time of appointment); AND,
  • A Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Nursing from an accredited U.S. college or university or certified foreign studies equivalency; AND,
  • Four (4) years of experience as a Registered Nurse with at least three (3) years under the direct supervision of an official public health agency with a generalized public health nursing program; OR,

    Four (4) years of experience as a Registered Nurse working with at least one (1) of the following groups: pregnant women; infants and toddlers; parents, adults and children with tuberculosis; community groups regarding maternal and child health issues and communicable disease.
    Notes:
  • Applicants must be in the process of obtaining their Public Health Nurse Certificate at the time of interview.
  • For applicants with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing: a Master of Science degree in Nursing from an accredited U.S. college or university or a certified foreign studies equivalency, can substitute for one (1) year of the registered nursing experience.
  • A valid National Provider Identification Number (NPI) and CPR card is required at time of appointment.

    Public Health Nurse Certification
    To obtain Public Health Nurse Certification, candidates must meet all requirements on the Certification application including completion of an approved child abuse course.     Ideal Candidate
    The ideal candidate will possess broad nursing knowledge and clinical experience and demonstrate excellent case management skills, including the use of electronic case management systems. Prior mid-management experience and leadership over professional level staff is highly desirable. Knowledge of health systems programs and policies and the ability to critically and accurately adjudicate requests for treatment interventions based on State program regulations is important in this position. The ideal candidate will encourage team collaboration, positive communication and demonstrate good judgment. A candidate with a strong grasp of community resources and prior experience working with clients and health care providers is highly desired.
