Are you looking for an opportunity to demonstrate your nursing leadership skills? Public Health Services is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Public Health Nurse Supervisor.
Public Health Nurse Supervisor positions are found only in the Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) and are responsible for providing first-line supervision and implementing nursing programs to subordinate Public Health Nurses and other support staff.

Duties include:
Supervising, directing, coordinating, scheduling, training, and evaluating the work of public health nurses and paraprofessional staff engaged in providing services and case management to patients with Tuberculosis; coordinating services with other social and health service agencies, educational agencies, and the community; represents HHSA on committees as necessary; may assist in the development of policies and procedures related to Tuberculosis Control; may assist in the management of public health clinics; and assesses individual and community health needs.

Required education and experience:
  • Valid California Registered Nurse License is required at time of application; AND,
  • Valid Public Health Nurse Certificate from a State Public Health Nursing or other regulatory agency is required at time of appointment; AND,
  • A bachelor of science or master of science degree in nursing from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency, AND,
  • Four (4) years of experience as a Registered Nurse with at least three (3) years under the direct supervision of an official public health agency with a generalized public health nursing program; OR,
  • Four (4) years of experience as a Registered Nurse working with at least one (1) of the following groups: pregnant women, infants and toddlers, parents, adults and children with tuberculosis, community groups regarding maternal and child health issues and communicable disease.

  • Applicants must be at least in the process of obtaining their Public Health Nurse Certificate at the time of interview.
  • A valid National Provider Identification Number (NPI) is required at the time of employment.
  • A master's degree in nursing can substitute for one year of registered nursing experience.

    Public Health Nurse Certification:
    To obtain a Public Health Nurse Certification, candidates must meet all requirements on the Certification application including completion of an approved child abuse course.     The Ideal Candidate:
    Will have experience in Tuberculosis control, communicable disease control, disease investigations, public health, epidemiology, and/or related field, and supervisory experience.
